Author's convention or book signing packing list.

Thanks to a few of our attending authors we now have a “Author’s convention or book signing packing list.”

The list was largely created by IRC attending author Allie Marie, with the additional help from attending authors DF Jones, Natalie Decker and Kate McKeever which also added a few more items to the list below.

  • Your books (may seem like a "duh" but you might overlook the obvious)
  • Display stands or picture frames for books
  • Sign displaying book prices
  • Pens for signing (have extra, they disappear!)
  • Banners
  • Bookmarks, postcards, etc
  • Business cards (and considers getting a business card file holder for the cards you get from others)
  •  Cash on hand to give change (keep in mind your book price…if it’s an amount like $11.00, have plenty of ones, etc)
  •  Money pouch or holder (I use a coupon file, with slots for each denomination, checks, and my square reader)
  • Receipt book
  • Sign-up sheet for your newsletter, etc
  • Small bags for buyers to carry books, if you gave more than one book for sale
  • Table covering (I always have one white and one black on hand, but also use seasonal colors)
  •  Table décor (decorate your table according to the season or event)
  •  Balloons (if suitable for the event)
  • SWAG (could be pens, key chains, whatever you use)
  •  Bowl of candy or other freebie
  •  Small bag with office supplies (mini-stapler, paper clips, scissors, tape, extra pens, etc. You want to be self-sufficient at an event)
  • Table and chairs (even though they are provided at IRC, when you go to other events, you may have to bring your own)
  •  Canopy (again, does not apply to IRC, but for outdoor events, and include strings of Christmas tree lights for evening events)
  • A small pouch with Band-Aids, lip balm, hand lotion and aspirin
  • Mints or gum
  • Safety pens, hand sanitizer, wet wipes to go
  • Your square or PayPal scanner to accept credit cards by phone
  • Bottle of static guard and tide pens
  • Notebook for notes
  • Sweater, you never know when it can get cold in a meeting room.
